Wembley Park Station upgrade

The decision to select Wembley as the National Stadium has focused public attention to the area and Wembley Park Station as a critical element of the local infrastructure.

Wembley Park Station is around 100 years old and in very poor condition, both structurally and aesthetically, and has suffered increasing maintenance expenditure over the years. In addition many structural and operational elements are in need of extensive refurbishment or replacement. Existing entrances and passenger flows serving the Wembley Stadium and Arena events are placing a severe strain on the station and the booking hall, walkways and the overbridge are frequently congested.

The £37m project which started in 1996 required the station to remain fully operational during the entire duration and able to accommodate commuter flows and Wembley Stadium and Arena crowds whenever required.

Phases one and two are already complete and phase three, which is due for completion end 2005/Jan 2006, includes a new concourse, extension of existing concourse overbridge, staff accommodation building, new staircases, platform reconstruction, all necessary modernisation and refurbishment, mechanical, electrical and specialist services installations, general fitting out works and all necessary demolitions.
