While the main purpose of Defence Infrastructure
Organisation [DIO] worldwide is to provide a support mechanism for
UK armed forces, they also recognise their responsibility to manage
a large and diverse infrastructure estate to improve the living and
working environments, wherever possible, for troops and support
personnel.
This requires the team to be agile and responsive while following
processes, protocols and being able to evidence all it’s work
within an environment of high probity, open to public
scrutiny.
Franklin + Andrews, along with our parent company Mott MacDonald,
have been involved in many defence contracts globally, supporting
airforce, army and navy, as well as for suppliers to the defence
industry. Issues facing this sector often include SSSI’s,
conservation of large tracts of land, remediation of contaminated
land, resident consultation and occupier liaison as well as the
construction of buildings such as new barracks and associated
operational infrastructure.
The work supporting the DIO often involves challenging and exciting
projects built using the latest technology and techniques in
support of a vibrant, agile and busy customer.
An aspect of the work in defence that provides the team with
intellectual challenge is being involved with the supplier
engagement to progress and role out the UK governments initiative
to achieve mature
Sustainable Procurement across it’s supply
chain.
This touches every part of the UK manufacturing arena and allows
the team to witness what is going on in many advanced environments
to reduce the impact of defence business on the environment and to
invest in the knowledge of people working in the sector as well as
contributing to the social agenda around and across communities
touched by defence.
